How Do I Choose A Dog Cage For My Ute?

Ute dog cages are also called dog box canopies, dog pods, and dog boxes. They’re great for holding your dog so they can travel safely with you while you’re on the road, sheltered from the elements and securely fastened.

Let’s go over 4 things to keep in mind when choosing the perfect ute dog cage.

1. How big is your dog?

The top factor when choosing a dog cage is always going to be the size of your dog, and thus what dimensions the dog cage should be.

Bigger breeds of dogs tend to need more space. You want your dog to feel comfortable in the dog cage. If your dog won’t be able to stand in the cage, it might not be big enough to hold your dog for a long period of time.

Note that since dogs are usually taller when sitting up, it’s okay if they aren’t able to sit up properly in the cage.

2. What is your budget?

A high quality dog cage will cost more than a lower quality one. Depending on your budget, it’s a good idea to shop around and see whether there is a cage that best fits your needs, your dog’s needs, and your overall financial situation.

3. What material do you want the cage to be?

Like other ute canopies, dog cages can come in multiple sizes and materials.

Compared to aluminium, steel is more expensive – but also much stronger and more durable. If you expect to use your dog cage for a long time or frequently, a steel dog cage may be preferable.

The biggest factor when choosing material should be based on your type of dog. Domestic animals are perfectly fine in an aluminium cage. If you have a working dog, or a particularly aggressive breed, we recommend a steel dog cage as it will more capably survive the animals behaviour

4. What brand of ute dog cage should you buy?

No doubt you want a ute canopy brand that is dependable and creates top quality dog cages. After all, you want your dog to be safe and secure in the cage.

Magnum MFG creates a selection of dog transport cages that are polished, fitted with bolts, and have individually keyed integrated security locks. With added covers over the lock key barrels, there is more protection from grime and moisture.
